Do It Yourself Natural Skin Care Spa Treatments

There are some great at-home natural skin care do it yourself spa treatments that can give you results that are as good as a professional spa treatment. I’ve made it my business as a Dermatologist to try lots of professional spa treatments over the years and I’ve created some at-home recipes for bringing the benefits of spa treatments home to my house. Here are some of my favorites:

Dermatologist’s DIY At-home, Natural Spa Treatment The Soaking Tub:

Take a warm bath (preferably with candle) and a handful of Epsom salts or Dead Sea Salts. Add a few drops of lavender essence to the water. You can also add a tablespoon of your body oil (noted below) to help moisturize your skin during your soak, but the tub will be slippery. Soak for at least 5 minutes and preferably 15 min or more.

DIY Facial:

Wash your face first with your favorite cleanser. Towel dry then apply a clay mask to your face and let it work its magic while you soak in the tub. Clay will help soften your facial skin and refine your pores. While you’re soaking, treat any under eye circles or bags by applying cucumber slices (very thinly sliced and then soaked in ice water for 5 minutes or so first) or chilled green or black tea bags (brew first then chill)

DIY Exfoliating Body Scrub:

Exfoliate your body and feet after at least 5 minutes in the tub. Your skin will be soft and ready to slough off the excess dead cells at that point. To do the treatment while you’re in the tub:
• Treat your feet by using a pumice or foot file to sand away any rough skin on your feet
• Exfoliate the skin on your body to help soften and renew it by using a luffa, shower mitts or shower sponge and scrubbing the skin on your arms, legs and anywhere that your skin feels dry and rough.

DIY Deep Skin Hydration Therapy:

To deeply hydrate all your skin after your soak you need to trap the water so that it keeps working once you’re out of the tub. To do this: within 3 minutes of toweling off apply a thin layer of oil to your entire skin. Mix it with a few drops of the lavender essence. Options include jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil (you may need to warm coconut oil first since it’s often solid when cool), or even canola oil.

If you’re acne prone then apply your favorite face moisturizer to your face, not the oil. You can probably use the oil (no lavender) around your eye area and on your lips, or you can apply a rich hydrating lip balm for your lips. This is a hydrating, restorative treatment that will leave your skin looking and feeling like you spent a fortune at a spa, but you didn’t. Plus, you can do it anytime, no appointment necessary!

DIY Deeply Hydrating scalp and Hair Treatment:

For damaged hair or dry scalp first wash your hair before getting in the tub. Towel dry slightly and then applying whatever oil you’ve chosen for your body (or peanut oil) to your damp hair. Massage the oil into your scalp and hair, clip your hair up and wrap your hair in a towel, then hop in the tub for your soak. After the bath finish in the shower by shampooing out the oil, condition as normal and do a final rinse with chamomile tea to enhance the shine of your hair. Towel off from the shower and finish with your skin oil treatment as above.

DIY Deeply Hydrating Hand Treatment For Dry Hands:

After you’ve had your tub soak and applied your body oil, apply a richly hydrating hand ointment like Bag Balm to your hands and then cover your hands with a pair of cotton gloves. Leave the gloves on for at least an hour (or sleep with them overnight). Your hands will feel so much better! Many of us have our hands in and out of water all day and chapping is common. To keep your hand skin healthy, always try to apply hand creams several times a day after washing to maintain results. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands when you’re doing house work or dishes when possible too. These tips will help you keep your hands healthier and less prone to chapping.
