How to Overcome the Empty Nest Syndrome

Empty Nest SyndromeEmpty nest syndrome describes feelings of emptiness, loneliness or depression that parents may feel once their children leave home. Unaccountable tears, emotionalism, uselessness, guilt after a child has left, are some of the depression symptoms of empty nest syndrome. This condition is typically more common in women, who are more likely to have had the role of primary care. These feelings are not uncommon but not impossible to overcome either.

Some methods can be adopted for improving women health care from empty nest syndrome as given:

Appreciate yourself for you have raised an independent young adult, which is no easy task. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. Make yourself busy. Too much time on your hands won’t help lighten the feelings of loneliness. Joining a book club, volunteering in the community or getting involved in religious activities are all great ways to occupy your time.

 

Think of it as a second honeymoon that will start off the second part of your relationship. Even if you have more children at home, use this as a time to celebrate the love that started your family. Get a pet like dogs or kittens. Pets make you feel needed and loved and serve as great companions.

Stay in touch with your kids by phone or email. Arrange to spend time with them as a family. Visit them on the weekend or take them to lunch if you are close by and it is possible. Devise a business plan, marketing strategy and a budget. Your company could consist of a hobby that generates revenue, a home based business or a non-profit organization.

Go to classes or learn something new that you always wanted to learn long before. Meet New Friends and Get Back in Touch With Old Ones.You can also look for people you already know, but haven’t been in contact with for years. Try some of the social website links. Start a blog (there are lots of articles here to help you get started). Get involved with a local community choir or theatre group.

If you still find yourself having a hard time with depressed feelings, get some help from your family doctor or other parents.
