Progesterone vs. Progestin
With so much discussion regarding natural progesterone side effects, we thought it would be best to clarify the difference between Progesterone, a natural hormone, and Progestin, an artificial hormone.
Progesterone is a hormone naturally produced in women’s bodies that regulates our menstrual cycles and prepares our bodies for conception and pregnancy. Many women are recommended to take progesterone supplements when experiencing things like menopause symptoms and PMS symptoms. Natural progesterone can help relieve side effects like headaches, mood swings, and fluid retention.
Synthetic progesterone, or Progestins, are manufactured rather than naturally occurring and can cause a host of undesirable side effects. While the molecular difference between synthetic and natural progesterone is very tiny, it’s enough to make a huge difference. Specifically, rather than relieving many of the unpleasant side effects of menopause, it can intensify them.
Natural progesterone is an identical duplicate to that which is produced in our bodies, compared to progestin that simply closely resembles our own hormone. The significance of this difference is far-reaching and worth understanding completely before deciding which is right for your body.
