6 Natural Remedies for Hormone Problems!

balancehormones-640x400According to recent studies, at least 50 million women are going through menopause or perimenopause right now.  While we’re not at all upset over the fact that our periods are ending, we are upset about the not-so-pleasant symptoms that are flaring up.

I have listed below 6 natural remedies for the “not-so-pleasant” hormone problems that you may be experiencing:

Boost Your Libido – Approximately 43% of menopausal women experience a lack of desire and trouble reaching orgasm.  The good news is, taking 2,000 mg of L-Arginine daily can boost your sex drive, orgasm frequency, and clitoral sensation within four weeks.

Sleep More Soundly – Your fluctuating estrogen levels can reduce the levels of sleep-inducing GABA you produce, which triggers insomnia in 40% of menopausal women.  A simple solution to this hormone problem is Valerian.  Taking 300-350 mg of this calming herb 45 minutes before going to bed will kick-start your GABA production, helping some 82% of women sleep deeply.

Rev-Up Your Energy Levels – Again, those fluctuating estrogen levels can affect your central nervous system, triggering fatigue in up to one in four women.  Panax Ginseng Tea to the rescue!  Studies indicate that drinking 2 cups of this tea daily cut fatigue in half within 3 days.

Banish Your Brain Fog – At least 50% of women struggle with brain fog during menopause.  As your estrogen levels drop, your brain struggles to produce dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter needed for clear thinking.  Luckily, ginkgo biloba increases the blood to the brain and revs dopamine production.  Start with 240 mg daily; when your memory is back on track, reduce to 60 mg daily.

Control Your Mood Swings – One in five menopausal women struggle with mood fluctuation.  Eating two eggs per day can cut your risk in half. Eggs are rich in taurine, an amino acid that helps increase serotonin production – even when your estrogen levels are low.

Control Your Weight Gain – Again, when your estrogen levels nosedive, the pancreas’ ability to control blood sugar is diminished, leading to weight gain for about 70% of menopausal women, for which doctor’s recommend taking soy daily.  Its amino acids prod the pancreas to ramp-up insulin products, plus speed-up the conversion of fat into energy, helping women shed up to a pound a week.  Try one cup of soy milk or edamame (my personal favorite), or ½ cup of soy nuts or tofu daily.

Try these tips when your estrogen levels start to fluctuate and let us know how you do.
