As the holiday season quickly approaches I find myself already starting to worry about what I will wear, how I will do my makeup, what to do with my hair, just your usual party season pressures. Ok, maybe not, but I’ve learned from years gone by that sometimes what I think looks good doesn’t end up being
functional and by the end of the night I just want to tie my hair up in a bun and put a paper bag over my head because I look and feel disgusting.
Over the years I have, however, developed some easy beauty tips to help get me through the season.
First off, easy beauty tips for hair; half up – half down. During the holidays one of two things happens. I am either volunteered to be shoulder deep in the cooking and hosting activities or I end up at someone’s house where they have no fear of the heating bill. Seeing as I have naturally wavy hair that I straighten, neither of these situations benefits me as my head inevitably sweats, either from the hot stove or the stuffy room. I’ve tried the bun alternative in the past, but I can’t stand the resulting pictures. So, I find that if I place half of my nicely straightened hair into a soft upsweep and let the remaining hair flow freely, by the end of the hectic evening’s activities my hair has nice soft waves to it. Just in time for pictures!
Next, easy beauty tips for the holiday season - maximize your makeup while minimizing the upkeep. What does that mean, you ask? Good question! We all have our favorite features, whether it’s eyes or lips you know which you prefer. Decide which it is, downplay the other and keep the upkeep to a minimum. If you prefer dramatic lips for instance play up the dark color but keep your eye makeup to a minimum. Then keep your lipstick in your pocket and when you take a trip to the little girls room repair and replenish the look.
Now if eyes are more your speed, use an eye base before applying your makeup to maximize the length your color stays put. A little easier to maintain, however, make sure to bring touch up just in case and excuse yourself when necessary.
Bottom line, the trick to stellar beauty tips really is dealing with the reality of the situation. No need to get so glamed up that you can’t maintain the upkeep, just play to your strengths and enjoy your evening a little.
