Did you know that the very first Labor Day was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City as a “workingman’s holiday”.  From there, it spread around the country to honor workers everywhere and Congress passed official legislation in 1984 making the first Monday in September of every year a legal holiday.

Here are some interesting statistics:

1. As of May, 2010, there are 154.4 million people, 16 and older, in the nation’s work force.
2. 78% of the work force receive paid vacation as a benefit.
3. 7.6 million workers hold down more than one job.
4. 10.1 million workers are self-employed.
5. 26.4 million femle workers hold mangement, professional, or related occupations vs. 24.7 million male workers.
