If you’re looking for an alternative to fruits and vegetables to get those disease-fighting antioxidants and, at the same time, finding those food secrets for beautiful skin, try herbs and spices.

Here’s a list of herbs and spices, along with a comparison amount to fruits and vegetables.  Antioxidants are measured in ORAC points.  For example, 1/2 cup of blueberries has an ORAC score of 4,850.  Listed below are the ORAC points per 1 teaspoon of herb or spice:

Tarragon – fresh = 155 – you can add this to scrambled eggs.

Oregano- dried = 3,600 – you can add it to tomato bruschetta or chicken breast marinated in olive oil and garlic.

Cloves- ground = 6,600 – you can add to mashed sweet potatoes or acorn squash.

Cinnamon – ground = 7,000 – you can add to oatmeal, french toast, or applesauce.

Thyme – fresh = 200 – you can add to fresh orange slices with black pepper and olive oil.

Sage- fresh = 250 – you can add to cornbread and stuffings.

Turmeric = 3,500 – you can add to curries or bulgar salad with chickpeas and currants.

Remember, these amounts are for just 1 teaspoon.
