The health and beauty of your body can be threatened by inflammation, which can cause  heart disease, diabetes, and cancer just to mention a few.  Inflammation happens when anything  irritates your body, i.e. an infection, being overweight, stressed-out, or sleep-deprived.

Fortunately, you can help protect yourself against this damage by eating plant-based foods.  Here are 5 of the best:

Tart Cherries- They’re rich in anti-inflammatory substances like quercetin and anthocyanins.  The darker, the better.

Cabbage- Cruciferous veggies (like cabbage) contain sulforaphane, which can fight off bacteria and keep inflammation-related diseases (including cancer) at bay.

Onions- Another great source of quercetin, onions also have sulfur compounds that may help reduce cholesterol, blood pressure, and cancer risk.

Pistachios- They have more plant sterols (which help improve cholesterol) than any other tree nuts, plus they also contain a ton of antioxidants (resveratrol, lutein, and quercetin) that help fight free-radical damage in your arteries, eyes, and throughout your body.

Artichokes - They rank among the top 10 foods for antioxidant power.  Research suggests that they may have anticancer, antiaging, immunity-boosting, and cholesterol-lowering abilities.
