Yesterday we talked about acne skin care taboos. Today, let’s talk about the things that you should do, whether you have teenage or adult acne.
Good skin care plays an important role in acne skin care. Here are some skin care guidelines you can follow:
Limit Cleansing to Twice a Day – In the morning and at night. The only exception would be if you are perspiring heavily. Perspiration, especially when wearing a hat or helmet, can make acne worse, so the skin should be gently cleansed as quickly as possible after perspiring.
Use a Gentle, Non-Abrasive Cleanser – Wash the face, and other acne-prone areas, with a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser that does not contain alcohol.
Use Your Fingertips – Apply the cleanser, and wash your face with your fingertips. This reduces irritation. Using a washcloth, mesh sponge, or anything else can irritate the skin and lead to breakouts.
Rinse with Lukewarm Water – Be sure to thoroughly rinse away the cleanser with lukewarm, not hot, water.
Shampoo Regularly – If you have oily hair, shampoo daily.
Select “Noncomedogenic” Cosmetics and Skin Care Products- Contrary to common belief, it’s ok to use makeup, moisturizers, and sunscreen. The key is to select products that are labeled “noncomedogenic”. This means the product will not clog pores. Be sure, however, that you apply your acne medication prior to any makeup, moisturizers, or sunscreen.
Sunscreen - Use sun protection to prevent skin cancer.
