2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the National Women’s History Project!  It highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society.

It initially started in 1911 with the first international Women’s Day; then President Carter declared the week of March 8, 1980 Womens’ History Week; and, finally, in 1987 it was expanded to a month.

The theme for 2010 is “Writing Women Back Into History”.  The Women’s Progress Commission will soon conduct hearings to promote interest in preserving areas that are relevant in American women’s history.

Some interesting women’s statistics according to the U.S. Census as of October 1, 2009:

  1. 155,800,000 – the number of females in the U.S.
  2. At age 85, there are twice as many women as men.
  3. 82,800,000 – the number of mother in the U.S.
