For millions of people who suffer from Eczema, which has no cure, attempting to control the outbreaks, dealing with them and doing your best to cover them up can be a full time job. When my daughter was born, she was diagnosed with infantile Eczema at one month old. I was told by the pediatrician that she may, or may not grow out of it. Ironically, her day care
provider was a lifelong sufferer and was able to share with me skin care tips to manage the situation. I learned a lot from her, including her favorite beauty tips that she learned through experience, trial and error.
Eczema occurs when there is a reaction in the epidermis that causes the keratinocytes to become less tightly held together. When the bonds are weak soaps, fragrances, detergents and even water can become an irritant to the skin. Once the skin’s protective layer is compromised, almost anything can be irritating. Skin Care Tips for Eczema?
- Avoid heavily perfumed soaps, shampoos and moisturizers.
- Use a gentle skincare routine. The fewer ingredients in your cleanser, toner and moisturizer, the better.
- Use products that include anti-inflammatory and emollients to help your skin repair itself naturally.
As for beauty tips, again avoid cosmetics with long lists of preservatives including lanolin. Look for products that are hypoallergenic, noncomedogenic and nonacnegenic.
- Start with a gentle moisturizer on the whole face,
- Use a mild foundation with a green tint to tone down the redness,
- Avoid foundations that are specially formulated for age-fighting, lifting or controlling oil as they usually rely on additional ingredients that will irritate your Eczema,
- Use water-soluble products you won’t have to use harsh makeup removers to remove,
- And try powdered eye shadow with matte finish to reduce irritation.
The most frustrating thing about eczema is that it can manifest itself in very different ways from person to person. If you are prone to outbreaks that you think could be eczema and need help determining the best beauty and skin care see your dermatologist for a consultation.
