5 Winter Hand Care Tips

Winter can make your skin appear dry and flaky. this is because the cold temperature strips moisture from the air. Your hands get really dry during this time of year, so here are some tips to help you out.

1. Use a hand cream that is rich in coconut oil or shea butter. They will keep your hands moisturized.

2. Always wear gloves when you are going out. This will protect them from harsh cold temperatures.

3. Use rubber gloves when you do household chores. Frequent exposure to water and chemicals found in detergents/dishwashing liquids can strip the moisture from your hands.

4. Use hand masks to give your hands that extra dose of TLC.

5. Use a humidifier to put some moisture back into your house because heaters can be a bit drying. You can also place a bowl of water near the heater if you don’t have any humidifiers.

A Good Night’s Best

The best antidote for dry hands in the winter months is white cotton gloves. Right before I climb into bed, I slather my hands down in Vaseline or cocoa butter. I’ve even used a dab of olive oil (yes, from my kitchen) in a pinch. I pay special attention to my cuticles and massage the emollient into them. I put on my white cotton gloves and go to sleep. When I wake up, my hands are soft and my skin is glowing.
