The Met Gala’s red carpet Monday was buzzing with Hollywood’s most fashionable celebs. It was trend-spotting overload, but to make it more manageable we broke down the two trends we’re obsessing over — and the one that should be laid to rest.

So what’s sizzling (and what’s fizzling) this week?

Up: Showstopping Feathers. Cate Blanchett, Beyoncé and Diane Kruger all opted for feathered hemlines to finish off their gorgeous gowns.

Up: Dramatically Dark Lips. It was a ’90s style revival thanks to stars like Leighton Meester and Camilla Belle, who chose sexy wine-inspired lip colors to perfect their pouts.

Down: Going Color-Block Crazy. Color blocking felt so expected compared to all of the other amazing over-the-top styles from last night. Case in point: Amber Valetta’s Prada dress.
