Thanksgiving Traditions

A Few of My Favorite Things

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

I started watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade over 50 years ago with my father.  I encourage others to enjoy it with their family, children, grandchildren and/or friends — it can continue to be a tradition handed down through the generations.  It includes 3 of my other favorite things – takes from the Broadway shows, The Rockettes, and Santa Claus.

Thanksgiving Dinner

I enjoy a meal of my favorite foods (traditional or otherwise) with my family and/or favorite friends. Another way to build traditions is to determine what was the “best” side dish at your Thanksgiving meal, serve it every year, and share the recipe.

Holiday Movies

I also like that Thanksgiving is the starting point for the holiday movies – many of which are very heartwarming. Watching those is another way to start a tradition — watch your favorites together every year.

Family and Friends

My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is getting together with family and friends and having lots of fun.

Oh Give Thanks

Enjoying wonderful food especially prepared for the occasion is a family favorite at my house.  We often take this time to have everyone sit by the table to give thanks to God for all that we have.

Santa, Baby

This is the time all the kids know that Christmas is close by so they will all talk about their wish lists.
