Caramel-Spiced Apples Recipe

Healthy eating planIn the course of deciding the best weight loss plan to ensure you stay on your diet, it’s always nice to be able to incorporate something sweet in your healthy eating plan. Here’s a recipe designed to do just that:


1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/8 Teaspoon Ground Cloves

5 Medium Red-Skinned Cooking Apples (Rome or Jonathan) – cored & halved.
½ Cup Apple Juice or Apple Cider
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
2/3 Cup Sugar-Free Caramel Ice Cream Topping
½ Cup Toasted, Chopped Pecans


In a small bowl, combine cinnamon and cloves. Place half of the apple halves in a 4-quart slow cooker. Sprinkle evenly with half of the cinnamon mixture. Add remaining apples and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon mixture. Pour apple juice and lemon juice over apples. Stir to coat apples evenly.

Cover and cook on low for 2½ -3 hours, stirring gently halfway through cooking time. Spoon apples and cooking liquid into individual serving dishes. Drizzle with caramel topping and sprinkle with pecans.

Makes 10 servings. Per serving: 128 calories, 4g fat, 1g protein, 25g carbohydrates, 2g fiber, 33mg sodium, 0mg cholesterol
